UNDERSTANDING DIESEL OIL SPECIFICATIONS
The API "C" rating on a diesel oil tells you which generation of engine it is designed to protect.
Older naturally aspirated and turbocharged diesel engines, including many tractors and light trucks.
A later diesel category with improved soot handling and wear protection for high-speed, turbocharged engines.
15W-40 flows better at start-up; 20W-40 is a robust multigrade for older engines and hot conditions. Follow your manufacturer's recommendation.
